Re: How did you do?

I did very good day before yesterday.

It was a normal round from club tees at one of my favorit courses in the Soth of Finland. The course seemed to be very full and we got stunned, cause there was a totally free flight in front of us, so off we went little early.

Started wit a nice drive little left of the target ending up 8 meters short of the green, chip'n putted for a birdie. Nice, I thought when heading to the second, short par-3. Due to head wind took one club too much, but the shot was looking as if I had nailed it stiff. Two-putted for regular par.

Some luck along the round as well as missfortune, but that's how it is. Rub of green. Third hole started with a wild drive that oddly enough ended up into the middle. No idea how, but took it with pleasure and picked my provisional up some 100 more meters forward after hitting an exellent fwy wood, moved ahead and chipped for 40 meters and made that putt. 2 under for three played.

My ball striking felt easy and confident as we moved along to the next holes, but then all of a sudden sliced my drive between birches. But got an opening and went for the flag nailing it stiff and made the three-footer as I've been doing for a good streak now. It's been tee-to-green that have cost a lot lately.

Then I got into a casual water, which luckily saved me from playing off a bad lie and sunk a 10-meters putt for another birdie. Four under for six. Then I had my first in the future wow-thoughts and sculled my approach into a bunker, but saved par there, two-putted the next two to be four under at the turn.

The next was bogied due to duffing the approach short and then had unlucky bounce to make a double after pushed my next tee shot into a lateral. On the next hole I thought, that now it's time to attack after a decent drive, but ended up into  water again. Another double, which was a result of poor management, wrong shot for the front of the green and missing that by over trying to rake shots back from past.

Next hole was critical and cruchial for the score. Managed to make up and down there, then regulation pars untill the 17th, a dogleg left par-5. I knew being one over for my round and decided that now is the time to attack. Made my pre-shot routine as carefully and focused as I could and pulled the best drive I can remembe leaving 163 meters to the flag. At he moment I saw the ball off my driver, I knew there will ve a chance, but did not know, if it were for birdie or even better. I've never been so far down the middle on that hole. The flag was tucked into a nasty place coming from such an angle, but I knew that this is it. Best chance to go under again. Carefully made the routines and pulled a perfect 7-iron that looked like going in. One-footer for an eagle!

On the last hole made two minor mistakes and two-putted for my par and first ever under par for a round. Had a well deserved pint at the nineteenth and felt like a golfer. :)

More than the score itself I was most pleased with the way, I recouped my mental after those stupid management errors on 12th and even more, how I could feel so calm playing four under and evenly relaxed while making those doubles.

Superb Pete, WELL DONE!

Your first under par round is always something very special. Even if you never do it again nobody can take that away from you. :-)

How close have you been Pete?

My personal best: I was -4 on the 18th tee, hit the green in regulation, had a putt for -5, knocked it three foot past, dribbled the one back which stopped on the front lip. :-) Had to settle for -3 (68).

I've been about +4 in casual rounds and +6 in a comp I think. I've played front or back nine under par a few times though.

Not sure, but as a Pete too, I figured, there is no penalty to answer...

+1 on a relative short course, recreational and +3 in a tournament from tips.

In the springcamp of mine this year I had few very good rounds too, but ended up short being few over in the end, but it was then I realized, it is not a big deal to be playing your potential and going low. Earlier thera has allways been a toll for being "over your head" on the course, but this time, I knew anything could happen, if I just keep going and doing the same as I had till the turn.
