In case anyone missed my lengthy post, I broke 80 for the first time with a 79 on a course I hadn't played before! It was good for 38 points.

Wow... Congratulations! More so, congratulations for the way you did it. To come back and shoot an even par score on the back after +8 on the front is really something...
I've had a good day if I didn't fall out of the cart...

Sixth successive 0.1 increase with a 96 net 88 today   One more at the next comp and I'll be onto the handicap peeps. Does HDID automatically increase your handicap with seven in a row or does it have to be committee?

New swing taking a while to bed in but I think I'm on the right lines, just need to be patient and put up with some garbage for now.

Played in the rollup at New Forest today (Saturday) - Nice sunny day though stiff breeze gusting to 3 or 4 clubs - Steady start with 6pts on first 3 holes, then back to back birdies on 4th & 5th and finished with another birdie on 9th to have 21pts on front 9 - Hit the Par 5 10th with drive & 7 iron, but lipped out from 6' for eagle - Scrappy back 9 with bogeys on 3x Par 3's but 18pts & a total of 39pts meant I won the rollup \o/ (cut from 4 to 1 next time out!)

zombie, I am a man of few words! :D

Dennis, thank you! Even the back nine on its own would've been special as it was only the second time I've played 9 holes at even par or better (-2 once).

The club championships are next weekend, it'll be interesting to see what swing shows up then.

Monthly medal yesterday, went round in net 73 which I was very happy with as I had a 10 on the 7th due to some ridiculous rough I couldn't get out of. Handicap cut bu .5 so down to 21, the trend is starting to move in the right way!

Iron play was really good, evidenced by 3 out of 5 par 3s played in par, net birdie. When I got my drives away everything was spot on, need to spend a bit more time on the tee box working out the kinks.

The lessons are really starting to pay off tho, just in time for Old Thorns.

How the * are you still 21 Chris? With your power you could play 5 irons off non par three hole and have a 15 handicap

Some course management required, it must be :)

The run of 0.1 increases came to an end today, 41 38 for a 79 net 71 (par is 35, 35: 70) A bit lax at the end finished bogey, double otherwise may have been into cut territory. The swing changes are absolutely on the right lines but still more work required as it's still a hybrid between two at the minute.

Not played any competative golf for a few weeks now.In fact not much golf at all due to being ill for 4 or 5 days ,then driver and tour guide for my in laws for 2 weeks.Decided to go up the range Friday and was absolutely wacked after just 50 balls. The virus i had really took it out of me for sure.Tried again today and managed to comfortably get through 2 hrs and a couple of hundred balls. Was just concentrating on hitting it where i was aiming and getting a good strike etc..Hit some really sweet stuff but unfortunately won't be able to put it onto the course until next weekend

Mixed run yesterday at my club's ecclectic tournament: 4 triples, 7 pars, 2 birdies. Ended up with 25 gross /42 stableford. HCP now for the first time below 18.

The 5 wood stayed at home, with the MP H4 2 iron being wonderfully accurate.

Well, fair point Jay, but to be honest up until recently the 5 iron wasn't even that consistent.
I am making more effort on course management now, the driver is only coming out very sparingly.

Met up with my oldest son (who lives nr Torquay) for a round at Came Down GC in Dorset - Superb Harry S Colt course set high above Weymouth - Probably the best fairways I have played on this year & a really good test of golf - Quite hilly, especially on the front 9, but I got off to a great start with 2 Pars & a birdie - Wind was up, which I imagine is the norm due to the elevation, so drives over 290y or 190y depending on tee shot direction? - I used the wind to great affect on one of the Par 5's on the back 9 - Drive left me 250y to the green, which I reached with a quiet 19* hybrid - 15' putt rolled in for a nice eagle! - The next hole was a Par 5 in the opposite direction, so driver / 3 wood & still a decent PW to find the green - Finished round level par & counting the days until my next visit!
Paul
PS - Came Down was the venue for the first ever Ryder Cup match
