Got to play twice last week, Not striking the ball particularly well with the irons but am heading to the range tomorrow after work to give the old swing a "tune-up". Will be making an attempt to resurrect my 3/4 swing that worked so well playing back in high school. While i'm not really sure how I ended up with the current ugliness that results in far too many fat shots I am determined to start striking the ball better. Luckily the league I play in hasnt even set a concrete start date yet as we are waiting for daylight to last long enough for all to finish after work (18 teams of two).

On a side note and slightly off topic, and at the risk of sounding ignorant what is "chuffed"? Similar to amped or stoked?

Played like a donkey today!!! :-(

Hit one good 5-iron and two magnificent flop shots from greenside - otherwise - totally forgetable!!
It is a paradoxical but profoundly true and important principle of life that the most likely way to reach a goal is to be aiming not at that goal itself but at some more ambitious goal beyond it. - Arnold Toynbee

Managed to get out twice in the last week.

Saturday was a 2ball better ball. We scored 64, 7 under. Personally I shot an 81, with 3 double bogey's. Progress and a good start to hopefully a good season ahead. Ball striking was really good. Hardly missed a fairway with the big stick.

Today, shot 80. Ball striking still good, but it's still back to my old gripe. I hit shot after shot out middle of the face but get more air time than distance. If I adjust my irons in my head, ie my 4 iron is the same as my mates 5 then we are relatively close to each other. But I'm still really pleased with the MX300's. Easier to hit a bit than the 62's.

But 1 last thing that I felt last week has been something this forum taught me, or advised me. I played all winter with a few lessons and working on my grip, but couldn't get the feel for it at all. I have really small hands. I was advised to read Ben hogans modern fundamentals. That grip was hard to get used to as well. But a bit of trust in Ben, and last week it felt correct. That way you struck the shot and just knew it was good. Lucky maybe, but time after time I could feel the difference this grip made helping me. All to do with the wrist *****. Now to work through the rest of the book and I'm sure that il manage to flight the ball lower soon.

Swing well

Played today on a new course and got net 66 (par 67) with 35 points. I was reasonably happy with my play but missed far too many short puts. Hopefully the ne Yes putter will arrive tomorrow :)

The one other concern is that for the last 6 months I always play much better on the front 9 and lose it on the back 9. Today I shot 21 and 14 respectively. Anyone got advice on how to maintain my performance into the back 9?
