What do you do with old Golf balls?

Sun Jul 10, 2011 5:58 pm

I seem to have various collecting points for old golf balls. There are some in the car, in the bag, the garage, the bedroom, the garden and various other places around the house. Some I lose on the course, but many more are retired when they are scuffed or scratched. I can use these to practise with for a little while, but then they are added to a collection. There appears to be no recycling facilities either at the local council tip nor at any of the clubs or golf shops that I frequent.
Any one else have the same problem and anyone got any novel solutions?

At my club the pro collects old balls for the junior coaching sessions so I put mine in there.

I have OCD. Meaning, I have a process for just about everything in my life. Long story ...

But, new golf balls get played with for one 18 hole round. Then they retire to the second pocket in my bag for 9 hole excursions. Once they are too old and scuffed for that pocket they go in the practice range bag that is in the locker at my club. I use that bag to practice at the sand trap area and pitch/chip area. Once that bag starts filling up, then I take the old ones out and put them in the 'recycle' range bag in my locker. Once that bag starts to get full, I use that bag to hit on the range (it is like a free token).

Oh yeah ... when a ball is complete with it's 18 hole round, I use a sharpie to write the score on the ball before putting it in the 9 hole excursion pocket. That motivates me when it gets to the practice bag.

You asked.

Holy monkey, just imagine if you wore your Friday underpants on a Thursday! I can imagine you as a child "Old Macdonald had OCD, AEIOU"

Most of my balls get lost before they get retired through wear and tear.
